I tried three times on the assignment, then stopped and decided to do something from imagination and take a break.  This is a character of mine named Oran.  I showed my husband and he was like  Shocked  "I can`t believe how much you have improved!  that is completely different from your own images before!!"  I was so proud of that remark--he doesn`t say stuff like that a lot.  Sure, if I was serious I would realize that even in the manga style, the neck is a li ttle long, the eyes are too big, the nose is long...blah blah blah. But no reference and just for fun to relax?  Not bad ^_^

Nice studies Michelle! Shocked

The thing that stands out most about your portrait/character is that the eyes arent round. They dont look like they lie in the eye socket.

The space between the eyeball and the nose is also much wider than one imagines.
Also there is always _something_ going on under they eye. Fat or wrinkles etc. The cheek bone is is also more prominent usually.

Thanks--the face wasn`t a study, just for fun ^_^  I haven`t gotten that far in loomis, and I wasn`t focusing on getting the structure..just relaxing.  Plus, in anime-style it does tend to ignore those details.  Though I do have kind of a mix of real-anime going on in that face.  That is a good link, though.  Thanks ^_^

Reading my comment again it sounds alittle harsh, sorry for that Michelle. Just wanted to point out a few things that I also just started to pay attention to recently.

Nah, you were fine Krel ^_^  I just responded the way I did because I already prefaced the image with a "this is just to relax and have fun" message.  I do the same thing, though--when I start to study something, I see it everywhere.  It is good that you can see it!  I highly encourage it--and besides, it is good advice that I can use for later ^_^

thoroughly perturbed and frustrated with the baroque exercise, I cracked out the loomis as soon as I finished it and started running some muscle studies.  Felt MUCH better after that  Grin

Some of the photographs are crappy,  but I figured they are sketches and quick studies--not worth the effort of trying hard haha.
